Marc Tuckey takes the viewer around the Isle of Wight's many pubs and investigates the history behind each one in the first in a series of DVD's on the subject. There's been some interesting things that have happened over the years at these hostelries. Being an island, most of the pubs have a nautical connection... one even started out as a barge! And as the island is reputed to be one of the world's most haunted places, its no surprise we stumble across a ghost or 2! We visit King Charles 1st's 'local' he frequented while staying at Carisbrooke Castle. Also, Marc finds out about the connections between some of the pubs and snuggling which was rife on the island. There is also some more recent history to be investigated... a Ryde bar's connection with the Beatles song; 'Ticket To Ride' and a bar with a tropical theme on the beach at Sandown. Marc also chats to some of the locals who know more about their pubs than the landlords! the pubs featured in this episode: The Liquid Lounge and Solent Inn (both in Ryde), The Driftwood Beach Bar (Sandown), Fishermans Cottage (Shanklin), The Folly (Whippingham), The Castle Inn and Wheatsheaf Hotel (both in Newport), The Sun Inn (Calbourne), The Bonchurch Inn (Bonchurch) and The Buddle Inn (Niton).
