Along with other Island tourism business, Island Explorer yesterday (Wednesday) attended the 'Big Ticket' tourism event at the Quay Arts Centre hosted by Visit Isle of Wight Ltd. The 2 hour presentation was opened by chairman Simon Dabell who went on to introduce CEO David Thornton. David reported a huge increase in visitor numbers who were taking mini-breaks to the Island which was good news. Then he went on to announce the ideas for the 2014 tourism campaign as being based around 'time travel'. "We are going to be focusing on the Island's history and time travel. When you travel from Yaverland to Brading Roman Villa, you travel through time from the dinosaurs to the time of Roman mosaics. The Island is going to become one big time machine from the dinosaurs to the space age and rocket ships." he explained. He even went on to say that A model 'time machine', will be created in time for the launch of the campaign in May. This of course is all good news for us as our tour programme which begins at the beginning of April, is predominantly themed on the Island's history although perhaps not as far back as to the dinosaur age!
