Last Wednesday Her Majesty The Queen opened the new lifeboat station at the former customs watch house. The refurbishment of the new station has been part funded from a £1m fund appeal of which £750,000 has been raised so far. The RNLI relies entirely on donations and it's hoped that this high profile event will raise the funds to reach that £1m target. A new class Atlantic 85 boat was also commissioned. The 'Sheena Louise' was named after a woman from Orpington who loved sailing despite being disabled. Following her death in 2005 aged just 39, her family decided to use funds from her memory to pay for the new lifeboat. Visit the website HERE for more information on the Cowes Lifeboat.
