IW Bus & Coach Museum on the move

It's finally been announced that the IW Bus Museum is to vacate it's current site at Newport Quay where it has occupied since the late 1990's. The move has been on the cards for over a couple of years and various proposals for a new home for the museum's collection have been investigated and discussed including re-locating to a site next to the Steam Railway at Haven Street. This however, was proved to be a little too ambitious with lots of red tape to negotiate.

The other realistic option was to acquire the former Southern Vectis bus depot in Park Road, Ryde as the new home and after about a year of discussions, negotiations and calculations, this has finally become a reality.

One of the trustees, Richard Newman announced the news earlier this afternoon that the depot had finally been purchased from Southern Vectis and the museum will officially re-locate in the new year.

The attraction was featured in Island Explorer's DVD; An Island Attractions Tour (ep 2) in which Richard appeared with Marc Tuckey, telling all there is to know about the Island's buses over the years. The DVD is available in our DVD shop.
