Pilot Boat Inn, Bembridge
Bembridge Harbour is where the River Yar flows out into the Solent. Ships were able to navigate along the River Yar from here right up to the old port of Brading.
Today Bembridge is a yacht haven, houseboat and small fishing community. And obviously after a hard day's fishing, you need to relax somewhere and what better enviroment than a pub sahped like a boat; The Pilot Boat Inn. The pub dates back to around 1720 and was originally 2 cottages on the seafront.
After the Embankment was contructed, the cottages were converted into a hotel and then in 1920's, the buliding was transformed to look like a boat and became a pub as it has been ever since. Today the pub serves good food and is a favorite with sailors visiting the harbour and also families who want to experience the maritime atmosphere. The pub features in 'Another Island Pub Tour, Round 2' DVD.
